Bwindi Gorilla Trek
Face-to-face with the mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Overview
Deep in the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, mountain gorillas move through the mist like shadows. This 3-day expedition takes you into one of Africa's most biodiverse ecosystems for a one-hour encounter with a habituated gorilla family — an experience that will stay with you for life. Your UWA-certified guide leads the trek, and your permit directly funds gorilla conservation.
Highlights
Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi
Depart Kampala at dawn for the scenic 8-hour drive southwest through tea plantations and the Kigezi highlands. Arrive at your forest-edge lodge in time for a sunset briefing with your lead guide. Dinner and overnight at lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trek
Early breakfast, then transfer to the UWA ranger station for your 7 AM briefing. Trek into the forest with your guide and trackers — duration varies from 1 to 6 hours depending on gorilla movement. Spend one magical hour with the gorilla family. Return to lodge for lunch, then an afternoon forest walk to spot colobus monkeys and rare birds.
Day 3: Community Visit & Return
Morning visit to a Batwa community for traditional dance and craft demonstrations. Depart after lunch for the return drive to Kampala, arriving early evening.

Absolutely life-changing. Moses knew exactly where the gorillas would be and we spent a full hour with a family of 12. The lodge was beautiful and the whole trip was perfectly organised.

Worth every shilling. The gorilla encounter left me speechless — a silverback walked within two metres of me. Jabali Trails handled everything seamlessly from pickup to drop-off.

I was nervous about the trek difficulty but Moses set a perfect pace. The Batwa community visit on day 3 was an unexpected highlight. I'll be back for the chimp tracking next year.
